Virat Kohli is feeling the pressure as captain in the opening Test against England deems David Llyod. The former cricketer and now commentator has slammed the Indian captain for influencing the umpires on day 4 of the Chennai Test. When India went out on the field, Kohli as ever was animated as he believed India could bundle out England cheaply.
This is not the first time we have seen Kohli fired up when the Indian team has their backs against the wall in a Test match. However, David Llyod believes Kohli is desperate after Ajinkya Rahane led India to a series win in Australia. Llyod criticised Kohli for his excessive appealing and taking two shocking reviews when the batsman clearly looked not out.
Virat Kohli was manically appealing on day 4- David Llyod
The Indian captain has made a return to the Indian after a brief paternity break. In his absence, Rahane led the side brilliantly in Australia and against all odds led India to two memorable wins in Melbourne and Brisbane. Since then a lot of experts believe that maybe Rahane should permanently captain India in Tests instead of Virat Kohli.
” It hasn’t gone unnoticed in India that Ajinkya Rahane led the side brilliantly in Australia and I reckon Virat Kohli is feeling the pressure”, David Llyod wrote in dailymail.co.uk
“He was appealing manically on the fourth day and called for two shocking reviews in the middle session. The commentators said he was trying to lift his team. I reckon he was trying to influence the umpires”, he added.

Meanwhile, it may be the case that Llyod was just trying to create a stir and play mind games ahead of day 5. Those who follow Indian cricket closely knows that Kohli is someone who never hides his emotions and wears his heart on his sleeve. The Indian captain certainly has a point to prove with the bat in the final knock after he scored just 11 in the first innings. Kohli will be batting on day 5 as India further need another 382 runs on the final day of the Test match.
