He also congratulated the Indian team on their Test series win in Australia with almost a second-string squad in the final Test match at The Gabba.

“Obviously, the Australian series really showed world cricket the amazing strength and depth in Indian cricket. To go and win that series in Australia, when you are missing Virat (Kohli) after the first Test and having so many injuries, just shows there is fantastic strength and depth, competition in Indian cricket.”

The England wicketkeeper-batsman further backed England & Wales Cricket Board decision to rotate its players for the back to back series, first Sri Lanka and now England.

“You do find it challenging having to stay away from your families, being in quarantine and locked up in hotels. ECB has been forward-thinking in rotating players for this series” he added.

England play India between February 5 to March 28 for four Tests, five T20Is, and three ODIs. Chennai will host the first two Tests. The final two Tests will be played at the newly built stadium in Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad will host the T20I series followed by Pune for the ODI series.
