Deep Dasgupta believes Virat Kohli’s captaincy will be hugely under the scanner if India loses the Test series against England. The former India cricketer thinks that after Ajinkya Rahane led India to a famous victory in Australia, Kohli has a point to prove as a captain in Test cricket.

Kohli who is India’s most successful ever Test captain in recent times hasn’t been able to lead India to Test victories. Under his leadership, India lost their 4th consecutive Test match after England humbled them in the opening Test match at Chennai. Deep Dasgupta pointed out that if anything goes wrong for India in series captain Kohli will be hugely scrutinised and hinted that he might even lose his Test captaincy.

Virat Kohli’s Captaincy Will Be Questioned If India Lose Against England- Deep Dasgupta

In a recent interview with India Today, Deep Dasgupta it is still early to talk about taking the captaincy away from Virat Kohli in Test cricket. However, he also indicated that if India goes on to lose the Test series then this will be surely discussed.

“Let’s be honest questions will be asked about Virat Kohli’s captaincy especially after what happened in Australia. If something wrong happens in this Test series and India then won’t qualify for the world Test championship final and then you have 5 Test in Egland. As of now, we don’t need to address the question of Kohli’s captaincy but people are already thinking about it but maybe this is not the right time. After England series away from home if India loses maybe we can address the question of Kohli’s captaincy after that”, said Deep Dasgupta.

Meanwhile, after India lost the first Test several experts have mentioned the fact that Kohli is feeling the heat as captain after Rahane led team India to a series win in Australia. The calm and composed Rahane seems to be a popular choice among former cricketers and fans as the new Test captain of India.

Nevertheless, even if India go down against England, Kohli is likely to stay as Test captain. The prominent reason being Kohli has built this fearless India team since 2014 and even if some results go against him will get much-needed backing from the BCCI and team management.

Furthermore, Kohli will be fired up in the next Test against England that begins from 13th February at Chennai. The always animated skipper of team India will be aiming to win the next three Test matches and then lead India in the first-ever world Test championship final in June.
