Virat Kohli”s Hundred goes in vain as Windies win 3rd ODI by 43 runs

An all-round effort from the West Indies team helped them to register a 43 runs win over India in the third ODI match played at MCA Stadium, Pune just finished a few moments ago. Indian captain Kohli decided to bowl first but Hope, Hetymer, Nurse knocks helped West Indies to post a decent total. Despite Kohli’s knock, Indian team were bowled out and lost the match.

Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah troubled West Indies openers. Jasprit Bumrah got the early breakthrough dismissing Hemraj for 15. West Indies openers added 25 runs for the first wicket. Bumrah struck again with the wicket of Kieron Powell for 21. At the end of 10 overs, West Indies scored 46 for 2.

Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Marlon Samuels for 9. Shimron Hetymer continued his explosive form with great six hitting. Both Hetymer and Hope added 56 runs for the 4th wicket. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed dangerous Hetymer for 37 off 21 balls.

Kuldeep Yadav got the wicket of Rovman Powell to put West Indies under pressure at 121 for 5. Shai Hope continued his superb form reaching his half-century off 72 balls. Hope and Jason Holder added 76 runs for the 5th wicket. The Indian bowlers kept picking wickets. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed well set Hope for 95 with a Yorker. Ashley Nurse played a quickfire cameo knock scoring 40 off 22 balls and added 56 runs for the 9th wicket. West Indies were restricted to 283 for 9 in 50 overs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of bowlers with 4 for 35 in 10 overs.

Chasing 284 runs to win, India lost an early wicket of Rohit Sharma for 8 runs. Virat Kohli continued his superb run of form in this series with some delightful stroke play. At the end of 10 overs, India scored 54 for 1. After the power play overs, both Dhawan and Virat continued to play with positive intent.

Ashley Nurse dismissed Dhawan for 35 ending a 79 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Virat Kohli continued to play in an aggressive manner and Rayudu also played well. Rayudu and Kohli added 47 runs for the 3rd wicket as Rayudu was dismissed for 22.

Kohli made the batting look easy and Pant played with some brilliant strokes. Kohli and Pant added 37 runs for a 4th wicket. West Indies bowlers kept picking wickets. Kohli reached his 38th ODI century off 110 balls and was soon dismissed cheaply.

Kuldeep Yadav remained not out on 15. India was bowled out for 240 in 47.4 overs. For West Indies, Marlon Samuels picked 3 wickets while Jason Holder, McCoy, Nurse took 2 wickets each.

West Indies 283 for 9 in 50 overs ( Hope 95, Hetymer 37, Nurse 40, Bumrah 4/35) beat

India 240 in 47.4 overs ( Kohli 107, Dhawan 35, Nurse 2/43, Holder 2/46) by 43 runs.

Indian captain Virat Kohli said: We could have chased 250-260 runs. Gave a lot of runs in the death overs and could not get many partnerships which do not happen. Kedar Jadhav will come in next game which will give us better balance. We should focus on what things we did not do right. Need to execute our plans better.

West Indies captain Jason Holder said: It was a good performance by the team who played well and went deeper into the game. Nurse played a key role with both bat and ball. The guys are learning, have areas to improve upon.

Man of the match Ashley Nurse said: Was able to play with free spirit. When Shai Hope got out, my job was to get a big total which was enough for us to win the game.

The fourth match will be held on 29th October at Brabourne Stadium with the series at 1-1.
