Virat Kohli’s Nephew, Virender Sehwag’s Sons In Auction List Of Delhi Premier League

The upcoming Delhi Premier League (DPL) auction on July 5 is generating buzz, especially with the presence of well-known cricketing surnames. Among the most talked about are Aaryaveer Kohli and Aaryavir Sehwag. Aaryaveer Kohli, 15, is the nephew of Indian cricket star Virat Kohli.

He is a leg-spinner and has been training under Raj Kumar Sharma, the same coach who mentored Virat in his early years. Aaryaveer is listed under Category C and had been registered with the Delhi Under-16 squad last season.

On the other hand, Aaryavir Sehwag, the 17-year-old son of legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag, has already made a mark by scoring 297 runs against Meghalaya while playing for Delhi’s Under-19 team. He features in Category B. His younger brother Vedant Sehwag, an off-spinner who has played for the Delhi Under-16 team, is also placed in the same category.

Expansion of Teams in DPL 2025

The DPL has seen rapid growth in its structure and popularity. For the 2025 season, two new teams — Outer Delhi and New Delhi — have been introduced. This adds to the six teams that participated in the 2024 edition: South Delhi Superstarz, East Delhi Riders, Central Delhi Kings, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions, and Purani Dilli 6.

The tournament, known for giving emerging talent a platform, has previously featured prominent players such as Ayush Badoni, Anuj Rawat, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Harshit Rana, and Suyash Sharma. With the addition of new teams and rising players from famous cricketing families, the DPL is evolving into a strong domestic league with national-level attention.

East Delhi’s Dramatic Championship Win

The first season of the Delhi Premier League ended with a thrilling finale, where East Delhi Riders narrowly defeated South Delhi Superstarz by three runs. Batting first, East Delhi Riders put up a strong total of 183 for 5, largely due to an explosive unbeaten 78 off 39 balls by Mayank Rawat, who smashed seven boundaries and six sixes.

Their bowlers then delivered under pressure. Simarjeet Singh and Raunak Waghela picked up three wickets each, halting South Delhi’s chase. Early breakthroughs by Bhagwan Singh and Simarjeet Singh, who dismissed Priyansh Arya and Ayush Badoni, ensured East Delhi’s historic win in the inaugural DPL T20 final held in New Delhi.
