Former India Opening Batsman Virender Sehwag has hailed the Indian Team’s performance in the 4th Test at Gabba despite India not playing their first XI. Lower order batsman, Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar who were included in the playing XI for the Brisbane Test notched up a 123 run partnership off 217 deliveries for the 7th wicket which included Washington Sundar’s 62 and Shardul Thakur’s 67 as India managed to stretch past the 300 run mark after losing Pujara and Rahane early on Day 3.
In the middle order, Mayank Agarwal made a comeback to the playing XI before getting dismissed on 38 by Josh Hazlewood while Rishabh Pant could only manage 23, ending his 10 match streak of 25+ runs in every inning in Australia by a visiting batsman. Post this it was the heroics of Sundar and Thakur carried through India from 186/6 to 309/7 in a 123 run partnership.

Virender Sehwag went on to tweet about Thakur and Sundar’s partnership as he went on to say it was ‘Ati Sundar Thakur’. While prasing the brave knock of both Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar.

Sundar’s 62 was the highest score by a debutant visiting Number 7 in Australia. became the second Indian player to hit a 50+ debut in his batting innings and take three-plus wickets in his debut bowling innings after Dattu Phadkar (51 & 3/14 vs Aus, SCG, 1947/48).
The last time India’s numbers 7 and 8 scored 50+ in same innings in an away Test, neither of them a wicketkeeper, was at Manchester in 1982, when Sandeep Patil had scored 129* and Kapil Dev had scored 65
Australia currently trail by 54 runs at stumps on Day 3 with a high chance of rain predicted on Day 4. With the series poised at 1 -1 Australia need to win the Brisbane Test in order to regain the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
