The Rohit Sharma injury saga has been the hottest topic of discussion ever since BCCI announced squads for the tour of Australia. The swashbuckling batsman was left out of the squads owing to an injury; although BCCI mentioned that they will continue to monitor his injury.

Despite severe injury concerns which compelled the selectors to leave him out of the squad, Rohit Sharma continued his training with the Mumbai Indians squad in the UAE. On Tuesday, Rohit came out to lead Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their final league which once again turned the spotlight on the national selectors.

Virender Sehwag slams selectors over Rohit Sharma mismanagement

To defend the selection committee, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri stepped in and stated that Rohit is unfit to play. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also reasserted what the selection committee and Ravi Shastri had said. However, soon after Rohit Sharma turned out to play, Virender Sehwag slammed the national selectors and Ravi Shastri. He also stated that it must not have happened with a player of such stature.

“I don’t think that it is possible that Ravi Shastri did not know about Rohit Sharma’s situation,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz. “Even if he is not a part of the selection committee, the selectors must have spoken to him a day or two days ago regarding what is he thinking, and taken his feedback and inputs,” Virender Sehwag added.

“I do not agree with this statement of Ravi Shastri that he is not a part of the selection committee. Even if it is not official, the coach and captain must have spoken unofficially to the selectors regarding who should be in the team for the Australia tour,” he further said.

BCCI should have taken all informational about Rohit – Sehwag

Adding further, Virender Sehwag stated that if the selectors were not sure about the nature of Rohit Sharma’s injury, the selectors could have kept him in the squad and called in for a replacement if needed. Incidentally, Rohit categorically mentioned that he is fit to play when he came out for the toss against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“I am surprised to see that a player who is ready to play for the franchise has not been selected to play for the country. This is surprising and mismanagement from the BCCI. They should have taken all the information that if he can play for his IPL team, then he should be kept in the Indian team,” Sehwag said.
