“If Rohit Sharma Sees Off The New Ball,” VVS Laxman Makes Bold Prediction On Rohit Sharma

Former India cricketer VVS Laxman has made a bold prediction as Rohit Sharma makes a return to the Test side for the 3rd Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Incidentally, Rohit missed the limited-overs leg and the first two matches of the series owing to fitness issues.

Ever since IPL 2020 ended, there were a lot of confusions over Rohit Sharma’s fitness. He didn’t travel with the side to Australia and instead returned to the country from the UAE to join the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore to work on his fitness. While the drama mounted, Virat Kohli’s comments added fuel to the fire.

A big century is on the cards – VVS Laxman on Rohit Sharma

BCCI was on the firing line before they came out with a statement on Rohit. The swashbuckling batsman finally cleared the fitness test on January 11 and left for Australia via Dubai. He remained in quarantine for 14 days before reuniting with his teammates on December 30 when he resumed training.

Meanwhile, as Rohit Sharma returns to the forefront, VVS Laxman feels a big hundred is on the cards for the Mumbai batsman if he can see off the new ball. Sydney has time and again produced batting-friendly wickets which aid well to Laxman’s prediction. Rohit has been working on his pull shots ever since he landed here to tackle the likes of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins.

“The Indian cricket team will be very pleased to have Rohit Sharma back, especially when Virat is not there. You want more experience in the Indian dressing room, because now is the perfect opportunity for us to go 2-1 in Sydney and then probably win 3-1,” VVS Laxman said on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Connected’.

“So, if he gets his eye in, if he sees through the new ball, I’m sure that a big hundred is on the cards as far as Rohit’s batting is concerned,” he added.

Although Rohit Sharma has played only 32 Tests since his debut in 2013, he has been in splendid touch ever since he was promoted to the top-order in 2019 against South Africa. He scored a couple of centuries including a double ton and will be keen to prove a point who doubted his red-ball credibilities in overseas conditions.

So far, Rohit has accumulated 2141 runs from 32 outings at an average of touch over 46 including six centuries all of which came in home conditions.
