The Pakistan Super League (PSL) ended abruptly but the tournament which took entirely in Pakistan for the first time ever has lived up to the expectations. The league has produced a number of buddling cricketers along with a couple of match-winners from whom Pakistan will benefit later.

One such talent was Peshawar Zalmi’s Haider Ali, who knocked consistent runs during the tournament to power his side to the semifinals of the competition. The young batsman, who was also a part of the Pakistan squad that took part in the ICC U19 World Cup, earned applauds from all quarters with his brilliant batsmanship. He amassed 239 runs at an impressive strike rate of158.27 in PSL 2020.

Former Pakistan cricket Ramiz Raza impressed by Haider’s skill set and talent compared him to Babar Azam and Virat Kohli – two of the modern-day greats. However, Haider Ali has expressed that he wishes to play like Babar and not Kohli.

“A batsman can never become like his role models but can improve himself and develop shots as they play,” Cricket Pakistan quoted Haider Ali as saying. “I want to improve myself to the extent that people call me Babar Azam and not Kohli because Babar has good shots. I cannot become Kohli but can develop shots like him through practice. I’m Haider Ali so I can only become Haider Ali,” added the youngster.

However, it will be a long way for the young Haider Ali to make his way into the national side. Meanwhile, with the semifinals and final left of PSL 2020, PCB CEO Wasim Khan is planning to conduct the remaining fixtures in November if the situation improves.
