During the IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, April 17, DC opener Jake Fraser-McGurk engaged in a brief battle with GT pacer Spencer Johnson. Fraser-McGurk showed urgency in helping DC chase down the modest target of 90 quickly.
He started strongly by hitting a four and a six in the first over. He then aggressively attacked Johnson, stepping away from the stumps and hitting a six over point. Continuing to create space outside off-stump, he managed to edge the ball to the third man boundary for another four.
Seeing Jake Fraser-McGurk consistently creating space for himself, Spencer Johnson adjusted his line to restrict him. This tactic worked, as Fraser-McGurk could only manage to hit the ball straight into the hands of Abhinav Manohar at short mid-wicket.

Fraser-McGurk and Johnson are teammates in South Australia’s domestic cricket team, which suggests they are familiar with each other’s skills and drawbacks. Johnson cleverly utilized this understanding to his benefit, gaining an edge in the psychological aspect of their encounter.
DC easily defeat GT by six wickets in a one-sided match
The target of 90 wasn’t going to trouble the Capitals, and Jake Fraser-McGurk’s aggressive start ensured that GT had no chance to put up a fight. His dismissal to Johnson provided a rare moment of consolation for the Titans.
Although GT managed to take three more wickets, the Delhi batsmen maintained their attacking approach, securing the win with 67 balls remaining. This victory has propelled DC to sixth place in the IPL 2024 points table, surpassing the Titans, who suffered a significant blow to their net run-rate.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 20th.
