An Indian journalist reported that MS Dhoni broke a TV in frustration after the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost their final league match to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024 on May 18 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This defeat allowed RCB to qualify for the playoffs while eliminating CSK.
RCB won the match by 27 runs, setting CSK a target of 219. Needing to score 201 to advance, CSK ended with 191-7. Dhoni scored 25 off 13 balls but was dismissed by Yash Dayal in the final over.
Following the match, there were unverified reports that Dhoni did not shake hands with RCB players. The journalist mentioned that he heard from Harbhajan Singh that Dhoni’s anger led to the TV incident, which he shared in a viral video on Sports Yaari.
“I have come to know about an exclusive scoop. I asked Bhajji [Harbhajan] paaji why Dhoni did not shake hands [with RCB players]. He said that not only did he not shake hands, he also broke a TV. He also punched something on the way back. He was very angry on missing [his stroke].”

Chennai Super Kings required 17 runs in the final over to secure a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. The first delivery was a low full-toss, which was hit for a huge six over fine-leg.
However, the RCB bowler got his revenge on the next ball, having the CSK legend caught at deep backward square leg with a slower delivery. He didn’t allow any boundaries on the remaining four balls, ensuring Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s place in the playoffs.
MS Dhoni’s performance in IPL 2024
The CSK veteran transferred captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad at the beginning of IPL 2024. As a keeper-batter in the lower order, the 43-year-old scored 161 runs at a strike rate of 220.55, hitting 14 fours and 13 sixes.

Additionally, with the BCCI reinstating the rule that a capped Indian player becomes uncapped if they haven’t played international cricket in the past five years, CSK has the option to retain their former captain as an uncapped player if they choose.
