Team India opener Abhishek Sharma maintained his blistering form in the 2025 Asia Cup, notching his third consecutive fifty on Friday. The left-handed batter achieved the milestone in just 22 balls against Sri Lanka during the Super 4 clash in Dubai, thanks to back-to-back boundary hits.

The aggressive opener started his assault by dispatching spinner Maheesh Theekshana for a massive six and reached his fifty in the sixth over of the innings. During Thushara’s third over, Abhishek drove a shin-high full toss to the extra cover boundary and immediately followed it with a powerful shot to deep backward square leg, completing his half-century.

The 25-year-old once again provided a thrilling start for the Men in Blue, following his 75-run effort against Bangladesh and a 74-run knock versus Pakistan in the previous two matches.

Abhishek Sharma Falls For 61 As Charith Asalanka Claims Key Wicket

Abhishek Sharma fell short of a well-deserved century once again, as Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka dismissed him in his very first over. He had made 61 runs off 30 balls but mistimed a low delivery from Asalanka, which went to deep mid-wicket, where Kamindu Mendis took the catch.

Earlier, Maheesh Theekshana had sent back Shubman Gill for 4, while Wanindu Hasaranga trapped Suryakumar Yadav for 12, slowing down India’s strong start. However, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma steadied the innings, putting India back on course for a big total.

Sri Lankan captain Asalanka had won the toss and chosen to field first in Dubai, making one change to his lineup by including Janith Liyange in place of Chamika Karunaratne. On the Indian side, Shivam Dube and Jasprit Bumrah were rested, with Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana coming into the XI.

Having already secured a place in the final with a couple of wins, India will aim to maintain their momentum ahead of their Sunday clash with Pakistan. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will be looking for a consolation victory after losing both of their Super 4 matches.
