In-form opener Abhishek Sharma carried on his brilliant run with the bat during India’s Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Friday, September 26. The left-hander made a strong statement early in the innings by dispatching off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana for a massive 88-metre six in just the second over.

The stunning strike came off the very first ball of the over. Theekshana tossed one into Abhishek’s hitting arc around leg stump, and the southpaw wasted no time in capitalizing. Clearing his front leg, Abhishek launched the ball into the second tier over deep mid-wicket, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Abhishek Sharma has been in scintillating form, amassing over 250 runs in just six innings to emerge as the top run-scorer of the Asia Cup 2025. The 25-year-old southpaw has played two blistering knocks in the Super 4 stage, smashing 74 off 39 balls against Pakistan and 75 off 37 deliveries versus Bangladesh. Earlier this year, the world’s No.1 ranked batter had also lit up the home series against England with a breathtaking 135 off only 54 balls.

Abhishek Sharma Shines, Shubman Gill Falls Early In IND vs SL Super 4 Clash

Abhishek Sharma maintained his red-hot form after Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka won the toss and chose to bowl first. Unfortunately for India, Shubman Gill was dismissed cheaply, caught and bowled by Theekshana for four runs off just three balls. At the time of writing, India were 59/1 after five overs, with Abhishek unbeaten on 41 from 19 deliveries alongside captain Suryakumar Yadav, who had scored 10 off nine balls.

The defending champions are yet to suffer a defeat in the Asia Cup 2025, and they will aim to continue their five-match unbeaten streak against Sri Lanka before taking on Pakistan in the summit clash, scheduled at the same venue on Sunday, September 28. Team India is eyeing their ninth Asia Cup title, while Pakistan has claimed the trophy twice in the past.

On the other hand, the Charith Asalanka-led side has already been eliminated from the tournament following consecutive defeats to Bangladesh and Pakistan.
