After scoring a century in the first innings, Abhishek Sharma struck with his very first delivery, dismissing Brydon Carse as India defeated England by 150 runs in the fifth T20I at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, February 2. The left-arm spinner also removed Jamie Overton in the same over, finishing with impressive figures of 2/3 from his lone over.
Carse’s dismissal occurred in the ninth over of England’s chase when Abhishek bowled a straight delivery. Attempting to go big, Carse lofted the ball towards long-on, where Varun Chakravarthy completed a well-judged running catch.

Abhishek Sharma Shines as India Defeat England in 5th T20I
Abhishek Sharma’s outstanding all-round display powered India to a commanding 150-run victory over England in the fifth T20I, sealing a 4-1 series triumph. Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 247/9. Alongside Abhishek, Shivam Dube contributed 30 off 13 balls, while Tilak Varma added 24 off 15.
For England, Brydon Carse was the most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 3/38, while Mark Wood picked up two wickets. In reply, England crumbled under pressure, getting bowled out for just 97. Phil Salt was the lone bright spot, smashing 55 off 23 balls with three sixes and seven fours.
Jacob Bethell (10) was the only other batter to reach double figures. Mohammed Shami was the standout bowler for the hosts, delivering impressive figures of 3/25 in 2.3 overs. Along with Abhishek Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube also contributed with two wickets each.
Jos Buttler’s side managed just one victory in the series, winning the third T20I by 26 runs in Rajkot. They will now aim for a fresh start in the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, beginning in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6.
The 50-over series will see the return of star players like India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will look to capitalize on the matches as part of their preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
