[WATCH]- Ajinkya Rahane Misses Century After Being Caught Behind In The Irani Cup 2024

Indian cricketer and Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane narrowly missed a well-deserved century, being caught behind for 97 on Day 2 of the Irani Cup 2024 against the Rest of India (ROI) on Wednesday, October 2. The match is taking place at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Rahane came in to bat at number four when Mumbai was struggling, having lost two wickets for just six runs. He formed two important partnerships, first adding 102 runs for the fourth wicket with Shreyas Iyer, followed by a 130-run stand for the fifth wicket with Sarfaraz Khan.

The 36-year-old was nearing a century but was out on the third ball of the 79th over. Yash Dayal bowled a short delivery that angled across him, and as Rahane attempted to evade it, the ball grazed his glove and went to the wicketkeeper.

Senior batters’ half-centuries helped Mumbai recover from early setbacks

The Rest of India won the toss and chose to bowl first after the match was delayed by a wet outfield. Mukesh Kumar made a strong impact for ROI, dismissing Prithvi Shaw for four with an excellent catch by Devdutt Padikkal at second slip. He then got Hardik Tamore out for a three-ball duck in the same over.

Shortly after, Ayush Mhatre was dismissed for 19, marking Mukesh’s third wicket. Shreyas Iyer stabilized the innings for Mumbai, scoring 57 runs off 84 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes.

Then, Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan scored 130 runs for the fifth wicket. Rahane scored 97 before being dismissed. Mumbai scored 304/6 after 87 overs. At that time, Sarfaraz was batting at 86, and Tanush Kotian batting at 13 runs.
