Chennai Super Kings returned to winning ways as they defeated KKR by 7 wickets at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 8th April 2024.

Andre Russell decided to cover his ears as MS Dhoni came at number 5 with CSK on the verge of winning runs. The crowd at Chepauk went crazy as Russell decided to cover his ears. Ruturaj Gaikwad hit the winning runs that helped CSK register a 7-wicket win.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and decided to field first. Tushar Deshpande struck on the first delivery getting rid of Phil Salt. After a decent 56-run partnership for the second wicket between Sunil Narine and Raghuvanshi, CSK spinners created a web that put KKR batters under immense pressure.

Ravindra Jadeja bowled with great control dismissing Raghuvanshi, Sunil Narine, and Venetkash Iyer quickly to leave KKR in trouble. Bangladesh pace bowler Rahman looked impressive with 2 for 22. It was a disciplined bowling effort as CSK restricted them to a below-par total of 137 for 9 in 20 overs. Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets each for CSK while Rahman took 2 wickets, and Mahesh Theekshana grabbed 1 wicket.

Ruturaj Gaikwad leading from the front

After disappointing performances in the first four matches, Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front with the bat. He looked in decent touch putting KKR bowlers under pressure. Rachin Ravindra showed his class before providing a simple catch to Varun Chakravarthy at long-on.

Gaikwad looked impressive taking singles and hitting boundaries to put pressure on KKR bowlers. Mitchell also made the batting look easy with some lovely strokes. Mitchell was bowled by Sunil Narine. Mitchell and Gaikwad added 70 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Shivam Dube showed his attacking skills with three big sixes that made the run chase easy. Dube was dismissed by Vaibhav Arora before the winning runs. Dube and Gaikwad added 38 runs for the 3rd wicket. MS Dhoni came to the crease at number 5. He took a single before giving a strike to Gaikwad.

Gaikwad remained not out on 67 off 58 balls with 9 boundaries. CSK won the match by 7 wickets with 14 balls to spare. For his 3 for 18 and 2 catches, Ravindra Jadeja was named player of the match award.

CSK will next play Mumbai Indians in an epic clash to be played on 14th April. Both teams won 5 titles each so far.
