[WATCH]- Asitha Fernando Clean Bowls Shreyas Iyer With A Stunner

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer‘s eagerly awaited ODI comeback was brief, scoring 23 off 23 balls against Sri Lanka in the first of three matches. Although he played well, hitting four boundaries, he missed a nip-backer from pacer Asitha Fernando and was bowled.

The dismissal occurred on the second ball of the 25th over, with India at 132/4 in pursuit of 231. Fernando’s delivery, pitched on a hard length and coming in with the angle, tricked Iyer. He misjudged the line and tried to play it to the off-side, allowing the ball to sneak in and bowl him.

Shreyas Iyer came in at number five, a spot he might not have occupied if Washington Sundar, who batted at number four, hadn’t been dismissed for just 5 off 4 balls. Iyer contributed to stabilizing the innings with a 43-run partnership with Virat Kohli, demonstrating his skill against spin. He was out shortly after Kohli, similarly unexpectedly, as leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga trapped him in front.

Shreyas Iyer was dismissed just a few balls after Kohli, also against the run of play, as leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga trapped him leg-before. Given his strong performance in the 2023 World Cup, including back-to-back centuries and match-winning innings in the semi-final against New Zealand, Iyer should receive some leniency from the management.

However, with Rishabh Pant waiting on the bench, Iyer will need to make the most of the remaining two ODIs in the series.

KL Rahul and Axar Patel revived India’s chances in the game

After India faced consecutive setbacks, the game seemed to be slipping away. However, KL Rahul, another highly anticipated returnee, and all-rounder Axar Patel steadied the innings with their composed techniques, guiding India past 150.
