[WATCH]: Australian Women’s Cricketers Assist Ground Staff In Covering The Pitch Due To Rain During The 2nd ODI Against West Indies

Australian Women’s cricket team helped the ground staff cover the pitch when rain halted their 2nd ODI against West Indies on October 12 at Melbourne’s Junction Oval.

Having won the first match of the 3-game series with an eight-wicket victory, the Australian team held a 1-0 lead entering this match. The home team’s captain, Alyssa Healy, won the toss and chose to field in this encounter.

The West Indies batsmen faced significant difficulties once more, finding themselves in a dire situation at 107/8 on the scorecard when rain interrupted the game. The persistent rainfall ultimately led the officials to abandon the match, resulting in no clear outcome.

The Australian cricket players earned the admiration of fans when they assisted the ground support staff by helping cover the pitch during a rain delay.

Australia and India women’s teams to play a Test at Wankhede Stadium in December

India is preparing to welcome the Australian Women’s team later this year for a comprehensive series across all formats. As reported by Code Sports, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will be the site for both the single Test match and the three-match ODI series during this tour.

Notably, this Test match will mark the first Women’s Test in India in nearly a decade, with the last one being in November 2014 when South Africa played India in Mysore. Since then, there have been no Women’s Test matches in the country.

Australia’s accomplished all-rounder, Ashleigh Gardner, shared insights into the playing conditions her team will face during the tour of India, stating:

“We know when we’ve played shorter format it’s generally pretty flat. So yeah, the Test match poses a different type of thing as well. But I think naturally, we’re going to prepare the way that we normally would.”

”We’re going over there pretty early. So it gives us a great opportunity to actually get used to the conditions and get used to being back in India again.”
