Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Justin Greaves and Johann Layne with two exceptional yorkers on Day 1 of the first Test between India and the West Indies in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 2. Greaves was out for 32 off 48 balls, while Layne fell shortly after for just 1 run from 4 deliveries.
Bumrah’s first wicket came on the final ball of the 39th over of West Indies’ first innings. He delivered a precise yorker, and although Greaves attempted to defend by getting low and lifting his back leg, the 140+ kmph delivery from the World No.1 pacer sneaked under the bat to hit the base of the off-stump, uprooting it spectacularly.
In the 41st over of the innings, Bumrah struck again, sending Layne back to the pavilion with another perfectly executed yorker that smashed into the off and middle stumps. The tail-ender was caught off guard by the pace, as the ball bypassed his defense.
By claiming two rapid wickets, Bumrah equaled Javagal Srinath’s record, becoming the joint-fastest Indian pacer to reach 50 Test wickets at home in just 24 innings. You can watch the video here:

Siraj And Bumrah Shine As India Restrict West Indies To 162 On Day 1
A dominant bowling performance by Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah enabled India to dismiss the West Indies for 162 in their first innings on Day 1. Siraj stood out with a four-wicket haul, maintaining his impressive form after finishing as the top wicket-taker in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Kuldeep Yadav also made an impact on his Test return after nearly a year, claiming two wickets. Led by Roston Chase, the West Indies will now look to fight back with the ball to stay competitive in the match. The visitors have not won a Test against India since 2002 and are coming off a 0-3 series defeat to Australia at home.
India, meanwhile, will aim to bounce back after a 0-3 home series loss to New Zealand last year, although they did manage a 2-2 draw in their previous Test series in England earlier this year.
