India’s bowlers shine on day 5

India entered the fifth day of the second Test in a strong position, having reduced Bangladesh to 26/2 in their second innings by stumps on Day 4. With two days of play lost due to rain, the extended morning session on Day 5 was critical. Bangladesh was in a position where they needed to bat carefully, but India’s bowlers had other plans.

The highlight of the morning session was Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional delivery that dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim. As Bangladesh’s final hope, Mushfiqur attempted to steal a single off Bumrah’s slower delivery. However, the ball slipped through the gap between his bat and pad, crashing into the middle stump. This wicket not only sealed Bangladesh’s fate but also highlighted Bumrah’s skill in deceiving batsmen with his pace variations.

While Bumrah delivered the final blow, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin played pivotal roles throughout the innings. The spin duo ripped through Bangladesh’s batting order, with Jadeja finishing with figures of 3/34 and Ashwin taking 3/50. Their relentless spin attack put immense pressure on Bangladesh, resulting in their collapse from 26/2 to 147 all out.

Bangladesh’s second-innings collapse

Resuming at 26/2, they lost wickets consistently throughout the morning session. Overnight batter Shadman Islam provided some resistance, scoring 50 runs, but his efforts were overshadowed by the team’s overall poor performance.

The morning session saw India picking up eight wickets, restricting Bangladesh to just 147. While Shadman Islam’s fifty was the lone bright spot, it wasn’t enough to save Bangladesh from a humiliating defeat. The delivery that bowled Mushfiqur Rahim was not only technically perfect but also psychologically crucial. With Rahim as one of Bangladesh’s most experienced players, his wicket signified the end of any realistic chance for Bangladesh to put up a fight.

India’s road to victory

After bundling Bangladesh out for 147, India needed just 95 runs to win. Given their strong batting lineup and favorable conditions, this target was never going to be challenging for the hosts.

With this win, India consolidated their top position in the World Test Championship table, edging closer to securing a spot in the final. Their consistent performances throughout the series have demonstrated why they are one of the best Test teams in the world.
