South African and Australian players were involved in two comical on-field collisions during Day 2 of the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Thursday, June 12. The ICC posted a reel on their official Instagram account capturing both incidents.
In the first, Pat Cummins and Kyle Verreynne accidentally ran into each other and tumbled to the ground. In the second moment, Keshav Maharaj, while sprinting between the wickets, leapt over the stumps and ended up colliding with Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey. The Instagram post was captioned:

Australia in control with 218-run lead at end of Day 2 in WTC 2025 final
South Africa resumed their first innings on Thursday morning at 43/4. The overnight pair, Temba Bavuma (36) and David Bedingham (45), batted with determination and put together a 64-run partnership for the fifth wicket, helping their side recover slightly after a troubling top-order collapse.
However, just as the duo looked settled, Pat Cummins broke through by removing Bavuma in the 40th over. Kyle Verreynne (13) then joined Bedingham, and the two tried to resist the Australian attack for 12 overs, but runs were hard to come by.
The relentless pressure from the bowlers paid off as South Africa were eventually dismissed for 138 in 57.1 overs, conceding a 74-run lead to the reigning champions. In response, Australia’s second innings began poorly as their top and middle order faltered badly, collapsing to 73/7 and sparking South African hopes of a comeback.
Alex Carey provided some resistance with a crucial 43 off 50 deliveries, helping Australia push their lead past 200 before he was dismissed late on Day 2. By stumps, Mitchell Starc (16*) and Nathan Lyon (1*) remained unbeaten at the crease, taking the defending champions to 144/8 and extending their overall lead to 218 runs heading into Day 3.
