BCCI Lifts Saliva Ban, Retains Impact Rule, Introduces Second Ball for IPL 2025
As the highly anticipated league draws closer, the BCCI has made significant decisions following discussions with the captains of all 10 teams ahead of IPL 2025. The board has lifted the ban on using saliva to shine the ball, which was initially prohibited after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The BCCI has also decided to retain the impact player rule for the upcoming season. Additionally, a new rule has been introduced, allowing the use of two balls in the second innings to counter dew and assist bowlers. The second ball will be available after the 11th over of the second innings.
However, its usage will be determined by the on-field umpires based on the presence of dew. The opening match of IPL 2025 will feature defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on March 22. Kolkata clinched the 2024 title by defeating Hyderabad in the final.
