Australia cricketer David Warner pulled off an one-handed stunning catch to dismiss Dhananjaya de Silva in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The visiting side eventually ended up winning the match in a rain-curtailed encounter.

Batting first, the Islanders got off to a flying start thanks to a 115-run partnership between Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka. The Aussies struck back with a couple of wickets before Dhananjaya de Silva struggled to get going.

Struggling to get his innings going, De Silva tried to chip one over the in-field hoping for a four in the 26th over. David Warner, who was stationed at mid-on, took a couple of steps to his right and timed his leap well to grab the ball with his left-hand, sending the Sri Lankan batter back to the dressing room.

Ashton Agar, who was the bowler, was left shocking and had his hands on his hands.

Sri Lanka did struggle in the middle overs but significant contributions from Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga in the lower order helped the hosts post 300/7 in their 50 overs.

Australia ride on Glenn Maxwell blitz to chase down the total

The second innings was curtailed due to rain and reduced to 44 overs, but Australia looked positive in their approach despite that interruption. Although they lost David Warner very early in the run chase, rest of the batters chipped in with useful contributions right throughout the innings.

Most of them got off to good starts, but only Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell were able to convert their starts into fifty-plus scores. Wanindu Hasaranga bowled an exceptional spell but it was eclipsed by Maxwell’s powerful hitting. He remained unbeaten on 80 off 50 balls to take Australia 1-0 up in the three match series.
