Devdutt Padikkal has been in prime form – be with the bat or in the field. After a couple of brilliant knocks with the bat, Padikkal produced a brilliant effort on the field to dismiss Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Asked to bat first by Virat Kohli, Delhi Capitals opener – Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan went all guns blazing. He went hard at everything at their disposal to register their highest PowerPlay total in IPL 2020 in the UAE. Shaw, in particular, looked in the mood.

The openers added 68 runs in just 6.4 overs before Mohammad Siraj, who is only playing his first game struck. Dhawan also followed the suit before Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer to have them at 92 for three. Iyer was the key campaigner after his swashbuckling knock in the last game.

Iyer fancied his chances of clearing the rope against the spinners and would have as well if he was playing in Sharjah or Abu Dhabi, but not here. It was a flighted delivery around the off-stump from Moeen Ali as Shreyas Iyer goes with the spin and heaves it to deep mid-wicket.

Devdutt Padikkal settled under it and clutches with both hands, then threw the ball up, went outside the boundary rope and came back in to complete the catch. He showed excellent awareness to grab a fantastic catch. It was a huge wicket for RCB as it is the in-form Delhi skipper walked back after a 13-ball 11 run knock.

However, back-to-back wickets didn’t hurt Delhi Capitals much as Marcus Stoinis ran a rampage against the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers. Stoinis remained unbeaten on 53 runs as Delhi managed to post 196 for four in their quota of 20 overs.

Bangalore will have to bat out their skin out to chase down the total and go on top of the points table.
