[WATCH]- England Strike As KL Rahul Departs Just Short Of Half-Century

India opener KL Rahul narrowly missed out on a well-earned half-century on Day 1 of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Wednesday, July 23. The right-hander was dismissed for 46 off 98 balls, which included four boundaries, after edging a catch to the slip cordon.

His wicket brought an end to a solid 94-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The dismissal occurred in the 30th over of India’s first innings, just four overs after the Lunch interval. Chris Woakes delivered a short-of-a-length ball outside off stump that moved away sharply.

Rahul attempted a punch away from his body but edged it thickly, with Zak Crawley taking a straightforward catch at third slip. This marked the second time in the series that Woakes has dismissed Rahul. You can watch the video here:

During his innings of 46, KL Rahul reached a significant milestone by completing 1,000 Test runs in England, becoming part of an elite group that includes legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. In the ongoing five-match series, he has scored 421 runs across seven innings, which includes two centuries, 137 at Headingley and 100 at Lord’s.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal give India a solid start in the fourth Test

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided India with a steady start after England captain Ben Stokes chose to bowl first. At the time of writing, the visitors were 98 for 1, with Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan at the crease. Sudharsan came into the side in place of Karun Nair.

India made two forced changes due to injuries, bringing in debutant Anshul Kamboj and Shardul Thakur for Nitish Reddy and Akash Deep. England currently lead the five-match series 2-1, having secured a 22-run win at Lord’s in the third Test and a five-wicket victory in the opener at Headingley.

India’s sole win came in the second Test at Edgbaston, where they triumphed by 336 runs under Shubman Gill’s captaincy.
