In the recent Test series against South Africa, KL Rahul showcased a commendable performance, securing a hard-earned century in Centurion. However, despite this noteworthy feat, he was notably absent from the T20I series against Afghanistan. As anticipation builds for the T20 World Cup 2024, emerging talents like Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson seized the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities on the global stage.

A viral video on social media captured a heartwarming moment when Rahul was exiting a restaurant, where enthusiastic fans approached him. While a couple of them attempted to touch his feet as a mark of respect, Rahul graciously declined and opted to take photographs with them instead.

Aakash Chopra, the former Indian opener, expressed reservations regarding KL Rahul’s exclusion from the Afghanistan series. His concerns stemmed from Rahul’s consistent performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup last year, juxtaposed against the underwhelming displays from both Rahul and captain Rohit Sharma during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

In a pivotal announcement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rohit Sharma and the formidable batter Virat Kohli made their much-anticipated return to India’s T20I squad for the forthcoming series against Afghanistan. This significant reintroduction of the senior duo marks a strategic move as India gears up for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Nevertheless, the conspicuous absence of KL Rahul from the lineup prompted Chopra to raise pertinent questions on his YouTube channel. He critically evaluated the decision, highlighting Rahul’s exemplary performance in the previous ICC Cricket World Cup and juxtaposing it with Rohit Sharma’s fluctuating form across different formats.

Aakash Chopra emphasized the need for consistency in selection criteria, advocating for a more transparent approach in team selections.
