[WATCH] Gautam Gambhir’s Poetic Tribute To Navjot Singh Sidhu

Gautam Gambhir’s celebration after India’s ICC Champions Trophy victory took an entertaining turn when he recited a famous ‘shayari’ in front of Navjot Singh Sidhu. Gambhir, who secured his first major title as India’s head coach by leading the team to a triumph over New Zealand, had been under scrutiny for his coaching approach, particularly in Test cricket. However, silencing critics with the Champions Trophy win, he showcased his leadership prowess.

Amid the joyous celebrations at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, a memorable exchange unfolded between Gambhir and Sidhu, known for his poetic expressions in the commentary box. Gambhir confidently recited, “Fann kuchalne ka hunar seekhiye janab…” to which Sidhu promptly responded, “Saapon ke darr se jungle nahi chhore jaate.” The moment was met with laughter and admiration, highlighting a rare and lighter side of Gambhir.

Sidhu Challenges Gambhir to Dance

Following their poetic exchange, Sidhu playfully challenged Gambhir to perform the Bhangra, but the Indian head coach was hesitant to take the stage. Despite Sidhu’s repeated encouragement, Gambhir refrained from dancing, though he did strike a Bhangra pose to entertain the audience. The interaction between the two former cricketers was widely shared on social media, with Sidhu later posting about the event.

He praised Gambhir and expressed his confidence in the coach’s future with the Indian team, stating, “The Shayari that he asked me to narrate has a lot to say … he @GautamGambhir is here to stay … wish him and the Indian cricket team the very best. You made India proud, brother.”

Rohit Sharma Praises Gambhir’s Support

Post-match, India’s captain Rohit Sharma also commended Gambhir for his unwavering support and belief in the team’s attacking approach. Rohit, who has traditionally played in a more calculated manner, acknowledged that he wanted to adopt a more aggressive style.

He credited both Rahul Dravid and Gambhir for backing his vision, stating, “It is not natural to me, but I really wanted to try something different. When you attempt a new approach, you need support from the management, and both Rahul bhai and Gauti bhai have given me that confidence. Their belief helped us play differently and achieve the results we wanted.”

The Champions Trophy victory cemented Gambhir’s position as head coach, and his lighthearted moment with Sidhu only added to the celebratory atmosphere surrounding India’s triumph.
