Melbourne Stars cricketer Haris Rauf was involved in a hilarious incident during the Big Bash League 2023-24 match against Sydney Thunder on Saturday, December 23 at the Lavington Sports Oval in Albury. He walked out to bat underprepared during the game, leaving everyone in splits.
The incident took place during the last over. On the penultimate ball, Mark Steketee was run out at the non-striker’s end. Haris Rauf walked out to the crease without his pads, gloves and helmet. Later, he asked for gloves and a helmet but didn’t wear any pads as he was at the non-striker’s end. He did not have to bat as Daniel Sams dismissed Liam Dawson on the final delivery. Melbourne Stars were bowled out for 172 runs in the innings, with Daniel Sams picking up his fourth wicket.

Sydney Thunder secure maiden win of the 2023-24 Big Bash League season
Sydney Thunder secured their first win of the 2023-24 Big Bash League season. They defeated the Melbourne Stars by five wickets on Saturday, December 23 at the Lavington Sports Oval, Albury. They chased down 173 runs comfortably with ten balls to spare. Alex Hales top scored in the innings with 40 runs from 26 deliveries, with three boundaries and sixes at a strike rate of 153.85.
Hales’ partnership with Cameron Bancroft got them off to a good start, with Bancroft slamming 30 runs. Alex Ross, Daniel Sams and Nathan McAndrew also scored valuable runs. Beau Webster took four wickets for the Melbourne Stars. Earlier in the match, Beau Webster also played a crucial knock scoring 59 runs from 44 deliveries. Sams was the top-wicket taker with four wickets. Zaman Khan won the Player of the Match award as took three in the first innings.
This was Melbourne Stars’ third consecutive loss of the 2023-24 Big Bash League. They have lost all of their matches so far in the tournament.
