After the conclusion of the 2nd ODI match, the presenter mistakenly referred to Harmanpreet Kaur as ‘Jemimah’ during the post-match interview, leading to a sharp response from the Indian captain.
In the second ODI against Bangladesh, the Indian women’s team made a strong comeback, securing a 108-run victory to level the three-match series at 1-1. Following an unexpected defeat in the first match, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team performed exceptionally, posting a competitive total of 228/8 while batting first and then restricting the hosts to a mere 120.
Jemimah Rodrigues played a stellar role with both bat and ball, scoring 86 runs off 78 deliveries and claiming remarkable figures of 4/3 in 3.1 overs. Despite being injured, Indian captain Harmanpreet showed immense courage and determination, returning to bat with Jemimah after quick wickets fell, and contributed a fighting half-century with 52 runs off 88 deliveries.
However, a peculiar incident unfolded during Harmanpreet’s post-match interview following the team’s resounding win.
Harmanpreet Kaur responds to the presenter mistakenly calling her ‘Jemimah.’
“Thank you very much, Jemimah and congratulations”
“Harmanpreet Kaur, thank you”

In a mix-up, the presenter addressed Harmanpreet as ‘Jemimah,’ to which the Indian captain promptly corrected him, stating her name as “Harmanpreet Kaur” with just two words.
She swiftly walked away with the microphone without waiting for the presenter’s reaction, and he eventually corrected himself.
Such a disrespectful attitude . What the hell does he not know captain's name who is playing opposite to their team. Aise kaise kisi ko bhi uthake commentary karwa rahe hai.
Her name is HARMANPREET KAUR . SHE IS OUR CAPTAIN. SHE IS THE PROUD OF OUR NATION. #BANvIND https://t.co/CDZi3JlitF— Bedotroyee Dey (@dey7503) July 19, 2023
Understandably, fans were displeased with the interviewer’s basic mistake of confusing the names, leading to criticism of his lack of knowledge and the overall broadcast team. Despite the peculiar incident, Harmanpreet expressed satisfaction with her team’s improved performance in the second ODI after their disappointing outing in the opener.
She also praised Jemimah for her outstanding performance. Harmanpreet viewed batting first and setting a competitive total as a great opportunity for the team. She emphasized the importance of one batter staying till the end and praised Jemimah’s contribution in rotating the strike. The Indian captain looks forward to the series decider in Dhaka on Saturday.
Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged the challenge of adjusting to flat tracks after playing ODIs for a long time but highlighted the team’s determination to adapt and perform well. She anticipates an exciting match in two days’ time.
