[WATCH]- Harry Brook Becomes The Youngest England Captain To Score A ODI Century

England captain Harry Brook reached his first ODI century by hitting a boundary off Mitchell Starc during the third match of the five-game series against Australia at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on September 24. He executed a late cut to outsmart wicketkeeper Alex Carey as the ball raced to the boundary.

At 25 years old, he has now become the youngest England captain to score a hundred in ODIs, eclipsing Alastair Cook’s record of 26 years and 190 days set against Sri Lanka in 2011.

The milestone came during England’s run chase in the 35th over, when Starc bowled a length delivery that Brook played very fine past the wicketkeeper, which once again had enough pace to reach the boundary. With that, Brook had scored back-to-back fours.

After completing the boundary, the Yorkshire batter removed his helmet to receive the accolades from England’s other players and the crowd. You can watch the video here:

Harry Brook keeps England’s hopes alive in the run chase against Australia in a must-win match

Harry Brook’s century provided England with hope of securing a 305-run target from Australia in the third ODI and keeping them in the five-match ODI series. Will Jacks would also make a fantastic 84 runs off 82 deliveries which included one six and nine boundaries. Both partnered together with a brilliant 156 runs after the hosts collapsed to 11/2 in the third over.

After being asked to bat first, Australia had a score of 304/7 in their batting entering into the last 50 overs. Alex Carey top scored with 77 not out off 65 balls which included a six and seven boundaries. Steve Smith and Aaron Hardie also contributed to the total with 60 (82) and 44 (26) respectively whilst Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell would get another 42 (49) and 30 (25).

Jofra Archer was the standout bowler for England, taking two wickets, while Brydon Carse, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell each claimed one. Australia currently leads the ODI series 2-0, with the fourth ODI scheduled for Friday, September 27, at Lord’s.
