[WATCH] Harshal Patel Picks Up 2 Wickets In A Single Over Against CSK

In the ongoing IPL 2024 Match 53 between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings, Harshal Patel, the fast bowler from Punjab Kings, made a significant impact in Dharamsala on Sunday. Patel’s exceptional performance led to a pivotal moment in the match as he dismissed the legendary MS Dhoni without allowing him to score, commonly known as a golden duck.

This dismissal occurred during the 19th over of Chennai Super Kings’ innings, when Patel managed to take two wickets off successive deliveries. This remarkable feat came after Sam Curran, the captain of Punjab Kings, chose to field first upon winning the toss at their home ground, the HPCA stadium.

Patel’s first victim was Tushar Deshpande, whom he bowled out with a deceptive slower delivery. The crowd erupted in cheers, anticipating the arrival of Dhoni at the crease. However, their excitement quickly turned to silence as Patel deceived Dhoni with another slower ball, causing the 42-year-old cricketing icon to miss the delivery entirely, resulting in his off-stump being uprooted from the ground.

Both Shardul’s dismissal and Dhoni’s exit came from a slower yorker, with Harshal Patel delivering an exceptional 19th over, conceding only two runs. In Shardul’s case, the ball was a slower full delivery targeting the middle stump line. Shardul, advancing down the track, failed to connect his slog, resulting in the ball crashing into the stumps.

Harshal Patel dismissed Dhoni with a stunning delivery

Despite the massive roar that followed Patel’s second wicket, he refrained from extravagant celebrations, understanding the sentiment of the fans who wished to witness Dhoni’s final innings at the picturesque venue. Notably, this marked only the second dismissal of Dhoni in IPL 2024, with his previous dismissal being a run-out for 14 runs in the match against Punjab Kings in Chennai.

Throughout IPL 2024, Dhoni has exhibited exceptional batting prowess, amassing 110 runs from just 48 balls faced, and maintaining an impressive strike rate of nearly 230. Following Patel’s stellar performance, Punjab Kings successfully restricted defending champions Chennai Super Kings to a total of 167 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs, capitalizing on their decision to bowl first.

Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel emerged as the standout performers with three wickets each for Punjab Kings, while Arshdeep Singh also contributed by claiming a couple of wickets. Despite notable performances by Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Daryll Mitchell, Chennai Super Kings struggled to find substantial partnerships with the bat, resulting in a challenging total for them to defend.
