New Zealand demonstrated a superior performance, securing a 21-run victory over Pakistan in Hamilton. This win propelled the Kiwis to a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, following their earlier triumph in the Auckland T20I with a 46-run margin.
Finn Allen played a pivotal role in New Zealand’s success, delivering an aggressive innings of 74 runs off 41 balls. His partnership with opener Devon Conway, contributing 59 runs, proved crucial. In the first innings, Haris Rauf stood out with exceptional figures of 3/38, supported by Abbas Afridi (2/43), making his T20I debut.
Pakistan faced a challenging chase, losing openers Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan in the initial overs. A noteworthy partnership between Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman was cut short by Adam Milne, who dismissed Zaman at 50. Despite Babar Azam‘s valiant effort with a score of 66 off 43 balls, Pakistan faltered. Azam succumbed to Ben Sears’ delivery at 153/7.
In the end, Pakistan was bundled out for 173 with three balls to spare. Milne emerged as the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 33 runs. Tim Southee, leading the side in the absence of the injured Kane Williamson, contributed with two wickets, including the dismissal of Abbas Afridi, securing New Zealand’s comprehensive victory.
