Jaiswal made a fine 101 off 159 deliveries, showcasing his class with 16 boundaries and a six. He joined a prestigious group featuring Vijay Manjrekar, Sandeep Patil, Sourav Ganguly, and Murali Vijay.

Jaiswal, Gill hit centuries as India dominate Day 1 of 1st Test

England captain Ben Stokes’ decision to bowl first after winning the toss didn’t quite pay off. Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul provided a solid foundation, putting together a 91-run partnership for the first wicket. After Rahul’s dismissal, debutant Sai Sudharsan fell cheaply, but India quickly regained control.

Jaiswal then combined with skipper Shubman Gill to form a crucial 129-run partnership for the fourth wicket. While Jaiswal notched up a fine century, Gill led from the front, remaining unbeaten on 127 from 175 balls, laced with 16 boundaries and a six.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant added to England’s woes, playing a fluent knock of 65* off 102 balls. At stumps on Day 1, India stood tall at 359/3. With Gill and Pant set at the crease, India will aim to post a massive first-innings total and carry the momentum into Day 2.
