[WATCH]: Ishan Kishan’s Funny Exchange with Shubman Gill Goes Viral After 2nd ODI

India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was involved in a funny exchange with captain Shubman Gill following the second ODI against Afghanistan in Lucknow on June 17. The pair stitched together a match-winning 224-run partnership for the third wicket, powering India to a commanding total of 402 in the first innings.

The Men in Blue eventually sealed a dominant 170-run victory, taking an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. During a light-hearted post-match chat, Kishan jokingly revealed that Gill had encouraged him to hit six sixes in an over, which ultimately led to his dismissal.

The left-hander smashed back-to-back sixes off the first two balls of the 37th over but was dismissed on the very next delivery while attempting a third consecutive maximum. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill responded in a playful manner, joking that Ishan Kishan had kept most of the strike during certain phases of their partnership.

Ishan Kishan eventually scored 125 runs off 79 balls in just his second ODI appearance since the 2023 season. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill went past the 150-run milestone, ending his innings with 154 off 110 deliveries.

“Yes, I Was” — Shubman Gill Opens Up on Chasing a Double Century

Shubman Gill admitted that he had his sights set on a double century during the second ODI against Afghanistan national cricket team. The right-handed batter already has an ODI double hundred to his name, and another would have made him only the second player after Rohit Sharma to register multiple double centuries in the format.

When asked after the match whether he was aiming for the milestone, Gill said (via Cricbuzz):

“Even in this match, in the series actually, I had a target for myself that I want to be there, I want to finish the matches and bat till 40-45 overs and build that habit, whenever I get a start, I want to convert those into big ones. Yes, I was (on eying a double century), but I knew that I’ll have to keep hitting my shots, keep 430, 440, 450 in mind.”
