[Watch] James Anderson Rattles Joe Root’s Stumps With A Classic Reverse Swing Delivery

Veteran England pacer James Anderson rattled Joe Root’s stumps in the ongoing County Championship Division 1 match between Lancashire and Yorkshire. The fast bowler bowled a classic reverse-swing delivery to send Root back in the hut.

Yorkshire won the toss and asked Lancashire to bat first at the Headingley in Leeds. Lancashire put on a mammoth 566 runs, before declaring their innings. Opener Keaton Jennings smashed a double hundred, while Steven Croft scored 104 runs. Skipper Dane Vilas too contribute 82 runs to Lancashire’s total.

In response, Yorkshire was bowled out for 379 runs, despite Joe Root’s century in the innings. The former England skipper scored 147 runs off 218 balls, including thirteen boundaries. Yorkshire was asked to follow on by Lancashire. During their second innings, Root was dismissed for four runs by James Anderson.

Anderson bowled a brilliant reverse-swing delivery to Joe Root in the 22nd over of the innings. Root tried to defend it but missed the ball, which went through his defense to rattle the stumps. The centurion from the last innings had to walk back to the hut cheaply, leaving Yorkshire reeling at 45/3. The LV=Insurance County Championship shared a video of the dismissal on their social media handle.

At the moment, Yorkshire has put on 147 runs on the board with six wickets down. They lost wickets early in the innings and were soon reduced to 86/4. Harry Duke and Harry Brook put on a small partnership before Duke was dismissed for nine runs by Matthew Parkinson. Yorkshire is still trailing by 40 runs in the match, with Harry Brook and Jordan Thompson at the crease.

England pacer Stuart Broad was also impressed with Anderson’s reverse-swing delivery. He tweeted, “Oh my reverse swing.” Both James Anderson and Stuart Broad were dropped from the England test team.

However, the newly appointed England skipper, Ben Stokes has asserted that the legendary bowling duo’s career is not over.
