Team India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah produced a stunning effort on the field to dismiss England captain Ben Stokes on Day 3 of the Edgbaston Test. The English captain got a couple lives before Bumrah jumped to his left to pluck on to a stunning catch to provide India their first breakthrough of the morning session.

Bumrah and Mohammed Shami continued the momentum from last night and troubled the overnight batters Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. The Indian pacers continued to ask some difficult questions as the ball went past the bat on multiple occasions.

Shami even induced a false shot from Stokes, which was spilled by Shardul Thakur at covers. The dropped catch shifted the momentum as the batter came hard at the bowlers and accumulated some quick runs. The change propelled Jasprit Bumrah to bring a bowling change and hand the ball to Shardul Thakur. The all-rounder did the trick in the first over.

Stokes came hard at Shardul but found Bumrah at the mid-off region. However, the fast bowler spilled the catch before holding onto an outstanding catch in the very next ball. It was slapped hard by Stokes again, but Jasprit Bumrah managed to take a sharp catch this time around. The Indian captain was quick to move across and reverse cup a ball that was absolutely travelling.

India post 416 in the first innings

India resumed Day 2 of the fifth Test against England on Saturday at 338/7, with Ravindra Jadeja 17 short of a Test hundred. The left-hander got to the landmark with a crunching boundary off England pacer Matthew Potts.

The all-rounder was dismissed for 104 by James Anderson. However, Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah came up with a swashbuckling batting display (31* off 16) to push India past 400 in their first innings of the Birmingham Test. He hammered Stuart Broad for 29 runs in one over. Overall, 35 runs came off the England’s pacer over, the most expensive ever in Test cricket.
