England’s Joe Root produced a spectacular one-handed catch in the slips to remove India’s Karun Nair on Day 2 (Friday, July 11) of the third Test at Lord’s, the venue for the ongoing five-match series. The wicket fell on the second ball of the 21st over during India’s first innings.
England captain Ben Stokes delivered a short-of-a-length ball that angled in and then seamed away sharply, catching Nair off guard. As Nair attempted to defend, the ball took the outside edge of his bat. Stationed at first slip, Root responded instantly, diving to his left to grab a brilliant one-handed catch.
With that catch, Joe Root increased his total to 211 outfield catches, overtaking former Indian batter Rahul Dravid’s long-held record of 210. You can watch the video here:

Gill joins steady Rahul after Root’s ton powers England to 387
England began Day 2 of the third Test at 251/4, with Joe Root on 99 and Ben Stokes on 39. Root reached his 37th Test hundred with a boundary off the first ball of the day. However, Jasprit Bumrah turned the tide for India, removing Stokes for 44 in the third over.
Bumrah struck again soon after, dismissing Root for 104 and then trapping Chris Woakes for a first-ball duck, leaving England reeling at 271/7. Jamie Smith (51 off 56) and Brydon Carse (56 off 83) rebuilt with an 84-run stand for the eighth wicket. Bumrah ended with impressive figures of 5/74 in 27 overs as England were bowled out for 387 in 112.3 overs.
India’s reply began shakily with Yashasvi Jaiswal falling for 13 to Jofra Archer in his comeback over after four years. KL Rahul and Karun Nair steadied the innings with a 61-run partnership before Nair was dismissed by Stokes for 40. At the latest update, India were 80/2 in 24 overs, with Rahul on 25 and Gill on 2.
