On Day three of the second Test match played against Sri Lanka, Joe Root, an England cricketer, hugged his father, Matt Root while departing to the pavilion. He has now added one other hundred in the second innings making it his thirty-fourth one – a clinic for England’s players. At thirty-three, he attained this milestone with just one hundred eleven balls making it his fastest one.
In addition, Root is now one among four people who have scored centuries in both innings at Lord’s. Such players include George Headley (1939), Graham Gooch (1990) and Michael Vaughan (2004).
The right-handed batter was out after collecting one hundred and three runs off one hundred twenty one balls during which period he made ten boundaries. As he walked back to the dressing room door, embracing him there was his father who congratulated him for that success moment with a hug.
