[WATCH]- Jofra Archer Sends Back Injured Pant With A Brutal Delivery In 4th Test

England fast bowler Jofra Archer removed India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for 54 on Day 2 of the ongoing fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Thursday, July 24. Bowling from around the wicket, Archer produced a seaming delivery that beat Pant’s bat and shattered his off stump in the 113th over of India’s innings.

Pant’s gritty innings came to an end after he walked out to a standing ovation, following Shardul Thakur’s dismissal for 41 earlier in the morning session. Interestingly, the mode of dismissal was quite similar to how Archer had removed Pant during the second innings of the Lord’s Test. You can watch the video here:

Pant was forced to retire hurt on Day 1, Wednesday, July 23, after sustaining an injury to his right toe. On Thursday, the BCCI confirmed that the 27-year-old would not be available to keep wickets for the remainder of the match, with Dhruv Jurel stepping in as the substitute wicketkeeper.

India Breach 350-Run Mark After Pant’s Solid Knock In 1st Innings

Rishabh Pant’s dismissal for 54 left India relying on their tailenders to add some late runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj managed a brief nine-run stand before Bumrah was dismissed by Jofra Archer, bringing India’s first innings to a close at 358.

Earlier, Pant had shared a 23-run partnership with Washington Sundar for the seventh wicket before Sundar was removed by Ben Stokes for 27. He also contributed a 12-run stand for the ninth wicket alongside Bumrah before falling to Archer.

Pant’s courageous decision to bat despite a fractured toe earned widespread admiration on social media. While it’s unclear when he will return to action, his brave effort with the bat helped India add 44 valuable runs after the fall of Shardul Thakur’s wicket on Day 2 at Old Trafford.
