Watch – Jonny Bairstow Confronts Abusive Fans At The SCG

Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow completed a scintillating century today in the 4th Test of the ongoing Ashes series at SCG. Bairstow completed his ton in the very last over of the day smashing the World Number 1 bowler Pat Cummins for a four. But it wasn’t all ecstasy for Jonny Bairstow as he was involved in a heated verbal exchange with some of the spectators at the SCG.

England were in absolute disarray at 36-4 when Jonny Bairstow walked out the crease post-lunch. Bairstow and Stokes went onto stitch a really crucial partnership and went into tea unscathed.

After completing an excellent second session in which Bairstow and Stokes helped England go wicketless, they were walking back to the pavilion and some of the spectators took jibes at the pair mocking their appearance and weight.

“Stokes you’re fat”, “Take your jumper off Bairstow”, and “Lose some weight Bairstow”, they said.

Upset with the insult from the crowd , Bairstow shouted back, “That’s right, just turn around and walk away. Weak as piss,” Bairstow responded.

Ben Stokes has been involved in heated exchanges before

Ben Stokes have been involved in heated exchanges with the crowd previously too. Walking back after a dismissal in South Africa in 2020, he shouted, “Come and say that to me outside the ground you f***ing four-eyed c***”, after his appearance was reportedly compared to Ed Sheeran’s in derogatory fashion. That outburst was caught by the TV cameras. Stokes later apologized for his actions on that day.

Ben Stokes was dismissed for 66 off Lyon later in the innings as Jonny Bairstow completed a counter punching century in the last over of the day as he would be looking to decrease the deficit as much as possible along side Jack Leach to give a fighting chance at least for the English side who are desperate to take something from the nightmarish tour down under.
