[WATCH]- Jurel-Jadeja Duo Ends Joe Root’s Gritty 150-Run Knock In 4th Test

India’s substitute wicketkeeper-batter executed a brilliant stumping to bring Joe Root’s commanding innings to an end on Day 3 of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Friday, July 25. Ravindra Jadeja delivered the much-needed breakthrough, dismissing Root for 150 off 248 deliveries, which included 14 fours.

The left-arm spinner also ended a 150-run fifth-wicket stand that involved Root and contributions from Ben Stokes (who retired hurt) and Jamie Smith. The key moment occurred in the 120th over of England’s first innings, when Jadeja tossed a slightly wide ball outside off stump. The delivery turned sharply, beating Root’s bat as he stepped out of his crease and lost balance.

Dhruv Jurel, alert behind the stumps, quickly removed the bails to complete a sharp stumping and leave Root short of the crease. This marked the ninth time Jadeja has dismissed Root in Test cricket. Notably, Dhruv Jurel has taken over wicketkeeping responsibilities in place of Rishabh Pant, who suffered a foot injury on Day 1. You can watch the video here:

During his impressive 150-run innings, Joe Root achieved several milestones in Test cricket. The 34-year-old surpassed former greats Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Rahul Dravid to become the second-highest run-scorer in the format. He now trails only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar on the prestigious list of all-time leading Test run-getters.

Joe Root-Stokes stand puts India on the back foot in 4th Test

A vital stand between Joe Root and Ben Stokes gave England the edge over India in the fourth Test. Stokes retired hurt after scoring an unbeaten 66 off 116 balls, including six fours, visibly limping as he walked back to the dressing room. Earlier, England’s top-order fired in unison, with Ben Duckett (94), Zak Crawley (84), and Ollie Pope (71) laying a solid foundation.

At the time of reporting, the hosts had reached 515/5, with Jamie Smith and Liam Dawson at the crease, extending their first-innings lead to 157 runs. For India, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar have each claimed two wickets.
