[WATCH]- Khaleel Ahmed Dismisses Ryan Rickelton With A Stunner In CSK vs MI Clash In IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Ryan Rickelton fell after a promising start on his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, March 23. The left-hander scored 13 runs off seven balls before being bowled by Khaleel Ahmed during the powerplay.

With Rohit Sharma dismissed for a four-ball duck in the first over, Rickelton had an important role to play. The South African batter looked in fine touch, striking a couple of boundaries off Sam Curran in the second over with classic strokes.

He continued his attacking approach in the third over, starting with a boundary off Khaleel Ahmed. However, in an attempt to play another aggressive shot, he edged the ball onto his stumps, bringing his innings to an early end. Watch the dismissal here:

MI secured Ryan Rickelton for INR 1 crore at the mega auction, and he was immediately included in the playing XI following Ishan Kishan’s release. The opener entered the IPL 2025 season in exceptional form, having delivered a stellar performance in the SA20 for MI Cape Town and the 2025 Champions Trophy for South Africa.

MI stumble in the powerplay, losing Will Jacks soon after Ryan Rickelton’s dismissal

MI found themselves struggling at 21-2 in the third over after Rickelton’s dismissal, bringing stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav to the crease. CSK made bowling changes from both ends, introducing Nathan Ellis and Ravichandran Ashwin midway through the powerplay.

Making an impact on his IPL return after a decade, Ashwin struck immediately, removing Will Jacks for 11 in the fifth over. At the time of writing, MI are at 44-3, with Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma at the crease, aiming to finish the powerplay strongly while preparing to tackle CSK’s spin attack in the middle overs.
