[WATCH] KKR Fan Hides The Match Ball, Faces The Range Of A Police Officer Who Retrieves It

In a strange incident during the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) match against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 on May 11 in Kolkata, a young man attempted to hide the match ball after it landed in the stands from a six. He soon faced the wrath of a police officer.

The officer retrieved the ball from the fan, who had concealed it under his clothes. The event was captured on video and has since gone viral. The footage shows the officer pushing the boy towards the exit gate after returning the ball to the field.

In a rain-shortened match of 16 overs per side, KKR triumphed over Mumbai by 18 runs. Chasing KKR’s 157 for 7, Mumbai could only manage 139 for 8. This victory secured a playoff spot for two-time champions KKR and knocked five-time champions Mumbai out of the competition.

KKR holds the top spot in the IPL 2024 points table

Meanwhile, KKR secured a top-two finish with 19 points from 13 games and a spot in Qualifier 1 after defeating the Mumbai Indians in Kolkata. Gautam Gambhir, who had a successful tenure with KKR as a player, leading the team to two IPL titles, has been consistent in his vision for how KKR should play.

However, in a recent interview, Gambhir admitted that his biggest regret was not recognizing Suryakumar Yadav’s potential, which he considers a significant oversight.

“A leader’s role is to identify the best potential and show it to the world. If there is one regret I have in my seven years of captaincy is that me and as a team never managed to use Suryakumar Yadav to the best of his potential.”

“And the reason was down to combinations. You can only play one player at No. 3. And as a leader, you have to think about the other 10 players in the XI as well. He would have been way more effective at No. 3, but was equally good at No. 7,” he said on Sportskeeda.

“He was also a team man. Anyone can be a good player, but being a team man is a difficult task. Whether you play him at No. 6 or 7 or bench him, he was always smiling and always ready to perform for the team. That is why we appointed him as the vice-captain,” he added.
