Star batter KL Rahul couldn’t turn a solid start into a big score on the opening day of the second Test between India and the West Indies. The match is being played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Rahul fell to a sharply turning delivery from West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican on the third ball of the 18th over.

Warrican bowled a tossed-up delivery just outside off-stump. Rahul came down the track, but the ball turned sharply, causing him to miss it completely. Wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach reacted quickly to remove the bails, and Rahul had to walk back after making a promising start.

His dismissal ended a decent opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The pair had added 58 runs before Rahul’s wicket fell. He scored 38 runs off 54 balls, hitting five boundaries and a six, showing glimpses of aggression and control despite failing to convert his start into a bigger innings.

After hitting a six off Khary Pierre in the previous over, Rahul seemed to be settling in well. However, the visitors struck at the perfect moment, breaking the opening partnership. Rahul would likely be frustrated with himself for not turning this promising start into a substantial score.

KL Rahul Registers Stellar Century In First Test

KL Rahul has been in outstanding form since the England tour and continued his rich vein of runs into India’s home series against the West Indies. In the first Test, the experienced opener played a brilliant innings, scoring a magnificent hundred in India’s only batting effort. He compiled 100 runs off 197 deliveries, striking 12 boundaries in a disciplined knock.

This was Rahul’s 11th Test century and just his second on home soil. It also marked his sixth century for India in the World Test Championship (WTC), placing him behind only Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, who have nine WTC hundreds each. Additionally, the ton was Rahul’s tenth as an opener, making him the fourth-highest century-maker among Indian openers in Tests.

With this innings, the right-hander moved ahead of Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma on the list, further cementing his place among India’s most prolific opening batsmen.
