[Watch] Kyle Mayers Dismisses Dewald Brevis With Unplayable Yorker

Kyle Mayers

Dewald Brevis, the young Protean batting sensation who took the SA20 2023 by storm with a swashbuckling batting performance in the curtain raiser, was cleaned up by a sensational yorker from Durban Super Giants’ Kyle Mayers

The fifth match of South Africa’s premier franchise competition saw table toppers MI Cape Town square off against Durban Super Giants in Cape Town. The Super Giants won the toss and chose to bat first in the game. Quinton de Kock surprised everyone by throwing the new ball to flamboyant Caribbean all-rounder Kyle Mayers.

Here’s the dismissal:

His decision proved to be a masterstroke, as the Windies all-rounder dispatched the explosive Protean opener Dewald Brevis with a sensational delivery. Several booming inswinging deliveries have already rattled the batters in this tournament; unfortunately for Brevis, the ball dipped viciously along with the inward movement, turning into an unplayable yorker.

The 19-year-old gave it his all but couldn’t get his bat down in time as Mayers dismissed him for a two-ball duck, leaving the stumps in shambles. It was a crucial wicket for the Super Giants because the young batter had made quite an impression in the previous game, smashing an unbeaten 70 off just 41 deliveries against the Paarl Royals on a tricky Newlands surface.

Ryan Rickelton, Brevis’s opening partner, was also dismissed cheaply in the fourth over of the game. After Prenelan Subrayen dismissed Rassie van der Dussen and Sam Curran in the seventh over, things got even worse for the Cape Town-based franchise. Despite losing the top order cheaply, Grant Roelofsen is playing a solitary hand.

At the end of their MI Cape Town scored 152-8 courtesy of Delano Potgieter’s 25 runs of 11 balls.
