Throughout the tournament, Dhoni battled a knee injury. Despite the discomfort, he opted to participate in all the matches and didn’t allow the injury to affect the team. After the season concluded, he underwent a successful surgery at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai.
“He sacrificed his international runs for trophies” – Gautam Gambhir on MS Dhoni’s career
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir had words of admiration for MS Dhoni, describing him as a captain who put the team ahead of personal achievements. He suggested that Dhoni often forwent his own batting success to ensure significant victories for the Indian team.
In an interview with Star Sports, Gambhir stated: “Because of captaincy, he (Dhoni) ocouldn’t achieve what he could have achieved as a batter. A lot of times as captain you have to keep team first. If MS was not captain, he could have batted at No 3. I am sure he could have broken several ODI records. He has won a lot of trophies, but individually he sacrificed his international runs for trophies.”
Gautam Gambhir was a member of India’s victorious teams in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups, with MS Dhoni as the captain. Dhoni holds the unique distinction of being the only captain to secure victory in all ICC white-ball cricket tournaments.
