Indian opener Shubman Gill’s struggle with form continued in the Asia Cup as Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana pulled off a sensational return catch to claim the first wicket for his team. India face Sri Lanka in their final Super-4 match, although they have already secured a spot in the final, while the Lankans have been eliminated following two early defeats. In the Asia Cup 2025 final, India will clash with their traditional rivals, Pakistan.

Gill’s struggles continued against Sri Lanka, where he was dismissed for just 4 runs. Theekshana bowled a slightly full delivery, just outside the ideal driving area. Gill went for a confident drive and struck it well, but the ball traveled straight toward Theekshana. The spinner reacted immediately, diving to his side and taking a superb two-handed catch, leaving Gill stunned before he started his walk back.

India opener Shubman Gill made his return to the T20I side for this Asia Cup, having missed the previous three series. However, his comeback has not been impactful, with his highest score of 47 coming against Pakistan in the Super-4 match.

Abhishek Sharma Shines With Third Straight Half-Century

The left-handed opener has been in sensational form for India, particularly during the Super-4 stages of the Asia Cup 2025. While Shubman Gill has struggled at the top and the Indian middle order has yet to deliver consistently, Sharma has emerged as one of India’s most dependable top-order batters, playing some brilliant innings.

Currently, he holds the top spot in the ICC T20I Rankings for batters. Known for his power-hitting, Sharma has smashed 50 sixes in international cricket, highlighting his prowess. His half-century against Sri Lanka marks his third consecutive 50 in the Super-4 stage, though Charith Asalanka provided Sri Lanka a major breakthrough by dismissing him.
