[WATCH]- Manav Suthar Claims Five-Wicket Haul on Debut After Dismissing Rahmat Shah in IND vs AFG 2026 Test

India debutant Manav Suthar created history by registering a five-wicket haul in his debut Test during the one-off match against Afghanistan in Mullanpur. The left-arm spinner reached the landmark on Day 3, Monday, June 8, after dismissing Afghanistan’s key batter Rahmat Shah in the first innings.

Suthar had already impressed on Day 2 by claiming a wicket in his very first over in international cricket and emerging as India’s standout bowler. He picked up three wickets before stumps and carried the momentum into the following day.

After removing Sharafuddin Ashraf to end the seventh-wicket partnership, the youngster moved within touching distance of a five-for. He completed the achievement in his very next over when Rahmat Shah failed to connect with a sweep shot against a full delivery.

The right-handed batter failed to connect with the delivery, which appeared slightly too full to attempt the sweep shot. Tossed up on the leg stump line, the ball spun back in, struck the batter’s pad, and then crashed into the stumps to send the bails flying. Have a look at the dismissal here:

Manav Suthar added one more wicket in the same over to end with impressive figures of 6/33 from 22 overs, registering the second-best bowling performance by an Indian on Test debut. The record continues to belong to Narendra Hirwani, who claimed a memorable 8/61 against the West Indies in the fourth Test of 1988.

Team India Enforce Follow-On After Manav Suthar’s Brilliant Spell Against Afghanistan

Team India bowled Afghanistan out for only 152 in the first innings, thanks largely to Manav Suthar’s outstanding six-wicket haul. Holding a huge lead of 412 runs, captain Shubman Gill chose to enforce the follow-on.

Suthar was handed the new ball in Afghanistan’s second innings and came close to picking up an early wicket on several occasions. However, the visitors managed to get through the challenging period before Lunch, reaching 18/0 after four overs.
