The final ODI between England and Australia in Manchester had the fans tightly seated as it went down to the wire. Australia kept nerves in the last over to finish the international summer with a series win. Meanwhile, a blinder from Mark Wood to dismiss centurion Alex Carey off Jofra Archer in the penultimate over almost took the host home.

Meanwhile, chasing an impossible 303 runs, Australia were already under pressure with half of their batters already back in the hut for 73 runs within 17 overs. While many thought that the game was over, Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey did the unimaginable.

They added 212 runs for their sixth wicket to put Australia back on course. The right-hand left-hand pair dominated the proceeding ever since they stepped in the park. They almost put England out of the game before the drama unfolded.

After a brilliant century, Maxwell fell prey to Adil Rashid in the 48th over trying to finish the game early. With Alex Carey at the other end, there were still hopes for the Aussies. But a brilliant catch from Mark Wood at the third man area in the penultimate over changed the game like a pendulum.

Jofra Archer bowled a well-targeted bouncer to Carey, who employed his trusted fine upper-cut once again. But Mark Wood charged in from the third man and took a brilliant diving catch to put England on top. This is one of the best diving catches you will see under pressure.

Meanwhile, with both set batsmen back in the dressing room, Australia were in a spot of bother with 10 runs needed off the last over. But Eoin Morgan’s gamble didn’t pay off as Mitchell Starc pounced on a floated leg-spinner from Adil Rashid to hit a six and release pressure.

From there, it was a cakewalk as Starc ended the game with a boundary. The international summer caps with a perfect one-day game and fans cannot ask more than this. Meanwhile, there were a lot of questions with Australia’s ODI team and they have answered their critics in fine style.
