Meghalaya’s Akash Kumar Choudhary produced a sensational display of power-hitting in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 match against Arunachal Pradesh at the Pithwala Stadium in Surat. The 25-year-old became the first cricketer to smash eight consecutive sixes in a first-class match and also registered the fastest fifty in first-class history, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls.

With this feat, Akash broke Wayne Wright’s 2012 record for Leicestershire against Essex and joined the elite group of players who have struck six sixes in an over. You can watch the video here:

Akash Kumar Chaudhary remained unbeaten on 50 from just 14 balls as Meghalaya declared their innings at 628/8 after 127 overs, finishing with an impressive run rate of 4.94.

Meghalaya Dominate As Arunachal Pradesh Struggle To Recover From Huge Total

Meanwhile, Meghalaya have put Arunachal Pradesh under severe pressure after amassing a mammoth first-innings total of 657 runs on a flat surface. Following his explosive fifty, Akash Kumar Choudhary also made an impact with the ball, dismissing Myendung Singpho in the fourth over of Arunachal’s innings, caught by Aryan Bora. He ended with economical figures of 4-0-10-1.

Akash’s heroics came after Meghalaya’s top order laid a strong foundation. Despite losing Bamanbha Shangpliang for 11 in the 13th over, Arpit Bhatewara anchored the innings brilliantly, scoring 207 off 273 deliveries. Captain Kishan Lyngdoh (119) and Rahul Dalal (144) added to Arunachal’s woes with commanding centuries, while Ajay Duhan’s 53 further strengthened Meghalaya’s total and ensured complete dominance throughout the day’s play.

In response, Arunachal Pradesh collapsed to just 73 runs in 27.4 overs, with only four batters reaching double digits. Amit Yadav top-scored with 16 runs. For Meghalaya, Aryan Bora shone with the ball, returning excellent figures of 9.4-3-16-4, while Aaron Nongrum and Dippu Sangma chipped in with two wickets apiece.
